A former shoe designer, Melanie Maggio left the industry in August 2015 to develop her own start-up. While helping her business partner Poull Brien with his sustainable seafood company, Wild Fish Direct, Melanie focused her energy on creating an environmentally friendly product made in America with a great story.

During a meeting with one of Poull’s spearfishermen in Florida, Melanie had the idea to repurpose discarded fish skin and bone into jewelry and accessories and quickly realized that Jacto could bring new value and meaning to what we harvest from the sea, help eliminate waste and help more fully utilize the oceans’ resources.
